Out of curiosity do the new MacBooks come with better MagSafe chargers?
We all know the current ones break at the connection, apart from the MBAs

If this has been posted before direct me to the appropriate thread :D

i was wondering the same thing does it have a right angle MBA style magsafe or a white macbook style one

How many people need to "post"? Do you really need pictures?

It's the same part number as the previous MB.

I was assuming Apple would of got their act together and sorted out a part which has an obvious design flaw

Obviously not :p

this is the lamest picture thread for 2 reasons

1) no pictures....even by the op

2) pictures about magsafes.......enough said

I don't own one of the new Alu MacBooks, if you read my first post you'd know that

Forums are where you discuss and ask questions, yes?

This is a great thread. We need more like it. I'm going to start a new thread, "Post your Power Button". I hope you'll all come by to contribute.

The magsafe makes sure your macbook doesn't fly form the table when someone trips over your cord. It's a safety addition, I don't think it's meant to be pulled off like that every single time. I always flip the connector itself up which lets the connector come loose.

please do! :p

I could of worded the thread title better
but you see what I was asking? wether Apple improved/redesigned the MagSafe with the new MacBooks

It's a shame they haven't, it'd save users and them alot of upset

so what if you hook up your ethernet cable? ;)

what's the final word on using other power supplies to power the macbook? If I use my MBP power supply, or a MBA supply, will it really damage my MB?

I've heard each argument over and over, but never an answer.

You can use a Macbook Pro adapter to charge a Macbook. It says right on the box that it's designed for a Macbook Pro and Macbook.

The Macbook Air adapter can charge a Macbook if it's turned off but and it's on and under a load it may pull too much amperage and burn out the MBA adapter.
The same goes for a MB adapter charging a MBP.

I believe you will only damage the respective adpaters and not the 'books

as far as I know, each power adapter can supply a range of voltage... 16.5-18.5V for example for a MBP adapter. as long as the adapter in question can supply at least the range stated on the macbook adapter, then it's okay. however, using an underpowered adapter would result in the computer possibly not getting enough juice to even work properly.

so, MBP adapters should be okay for MB, but I'm pretty sure the MBA adapter is only powerful enough for the MBA.

and yes, the magsafes were redesigned in late 2006 I believe, or early 2007, when a lengthened piece of plastic was used near the magsafe connector to prevent fraying. there havent been any new issues...

Wasn't even aware that there was a problem with the magsafe power connectors. I used an early C2D Macbook (heavily) for 2 years without even a hint of an issue.

What are people doing to theirs to cause failures? ;)

Same here. Still on the one that shipped in the box with my CD machine from March 06 and the magsafe is in perfect condition.
