New MacBook, old battery

I just bought a new 2017 MacBook, and after installing and running Coconut Battery, learned that the battery was manufactured in 2015 and has a charge capacity of 96% of spec. However, it only has 3 charge cycles (all mine), so it is not a "used" battery.

Is this considered appropriate, to have a new Mac laptop have a 2-year old battery in it?

Coconut Battery may be reporting bad information. Apple sometimes changes the formula for determining the serial number (and thus computing the manufacture date).
