Is there some trick to getting the higher-end graphics card to work. I'm trying my new laptop out with World of Warcraft and an external 23" display but getting worse FPS than with my old 17" MBP. It seems like the system isn't using the 9600M GT card, but rather the lower end one. Is there something I need to do to enable it?

Not really a trick, you just need to go into the System Preferences, Energy Saver section and enable the discrete graphics card, it'll make you log out to activate then you're good to go.

Is there a way for it to switch automatically when using battery power? Instead of having to manually change it?

Seems like a huge oversight. I'm sure an app will be out soon that manages this better.

"Windows" is that app...It pains me to say.

/9600gt in a 15" macbook pro. Hates (*HATES*) having to muck around with preference panes and log out just to get decent battery life.
