Does anyone have some personal experience to share about the battery life on the new MBP? The 13 in released in 2010 is advertised as having 10 hours of battery life, but the current one say it only gets 7 hours.

I'm contemplating getting a referb of last years model because it's cheaper and the reported loss of battery life on the new models doesn't make me want to pay $1199 when i could pay $899... Thoughts?

Is sandy bridge just a power hog?

that doesn't answer my question at all.
I want to know if there is a significant difference in the battery life of the two models (2010/2011).

There isn't a significant difference. The difference in estimated battery life is based on Apple using more realistic estimates in their testing.

Test of
the 2009 13" 9400M (advertised 7h)
the 2010 13" highend 2.66 Ghz (advertised 10h)
the 2011 13" 2.3 Ghz (advertised 7h)
the 2011 13" 2.7 Ghz (advertised 7h)

In all the tests they used the same battery life benchmark procedure. As you can see the real world battery life is and always has been around 4-5h. The best case battery life keeps increasing.
The surfing with WLAN tests are more or less similar to the load that Apple wants you to believe their new battery life estimates are accurate in.
