it has 1 dead pixel...damn!!

Picked this up at my university bookstore. they had the 2.4 for $1099 but hey for 100 bucks more, i'll take the better specs.

my bookstore has the best deals on the old stuff, i scored an iMac 24" 2.8 extreme 500gb hd, in the summer when the iMacs were updated, got it for $999.

i realized its not a dead pixel but a stuck pixel. im running JscreenFix. hopefully it fixes it. its in lower right middle. its pink on white. one small specs. sucks. i noticed it right away when i opened google.

wow thats a crazy deal, what univeruty?

UC San Diego. They had it for $1599, $1499 if you buy Applecare, but today just dropped it to $1199 no Applecare needed. This is the $2499 model. The 2.4 was $1399, $1299 if Applecare but now its $1099. So doing the math the $1199 was definitely the best buy.

Sigh, the Jscreenfix is not working so far...ran it for 5 minutes...they say after 20 minutes if it aint fix I can try the massage technique.

Sad but I had a blue stuck pixel on my old powerbook G4.

Ironically my white Macbook screen was perfect. So much for Pro.

cant you take it in to the genius bar and replace it?

try tapping it. seriously. worked for my powerbook. Eventually the pixel stopped getting stuck.

blah, I couldnt get rid of the stuck pixel. i don't want to return to my bookstore and be a little spoil brat, its really not that bad.

The only reason the previous gen mbp is useless to me is the nvidia 8600m gt defective gpu.

I'd much rather get the new mbp.

the nvidia GPU problem is fixed. Apple is now shipping "REV 2" boards. not to mention if you buy now you're still covered 2 years after even if you don't buy AppleCare.

Buy your MBPs while you still can. :) My parents are! (sister and I go to UC)

i love UCs.

at 1.2k, what it comes down to is, High end macbook....or much more powerful MBP.

Good to hear you are going to keep it. My 2.8 iMac last summer that I paid $2,500 for had 3 pixels so I did send it back. The replacement had one, just off the right edge 1/2 an inch, halfway up. I wasn't real happy about it, but wasn't going to go nuts over that. My new MacBook doesn't have any so I'm pretty happy with that, and though I have had to "fix" by bending the cover tabs and it still is a little loose, but I don't thing that it's worth taking back for, especially at the risk of other issues.

I'd take it to the genius bar and see if they can fix and/or repair the battery cover.

Have you tried massaging the stuck pixel away (assuming it's a stuck, not dead, pixel)? Just use a piece of cloth and gently rub it over the pixel in various directions. That worked with my first generation MBP.
