I literally just got finished setting up this machine (M1 Pro 16”), and turned it off for the first time, when I noticed a giant 2 inch scratch running horizontally across the screen. At first I though it was just a smudge or something from that paper that put over the screen. So, I got my Apple polishing cloth and tried to wipe it off….that did nothing. Then I ran my finger across it and could feel the scratch.

So, now I have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow. I’m assuming they will have to send this in for repair….or will they just replace it?

Well, I tried calling the Apple store…but immediately got switched to Apple support. First they tried to tell me it would be $299 to repair it. After I balked at that…they said it would be $99. I balked at that too. I shouldn’t be paying a single penny for this. Now I’m getting pissed. I now have an appointment at the Apple Store for tomorrow.

Don't know in wich country you are and what kind of consumer protection you have but in my country, if a good is bought on the internet, we have 14 days to return it no question asked and get refund.

I’m in the US, and I kept saying I’m not paying that…I’ll just return it. We have 14 days to return it here as well. And he kept interrupting me and saying “I get that I’m just giving you your options”. Seriously…what kind of options are those for a 3 day old computer? I guess I was thinking they would exchange it if they had one in stock…and not try to sucker people into paying an extra few hundred dollars.

Well, it never make someone happy to have a new toy scratched and waste time to return it but keep in mind that in the end, you will get the machine you want, in perfect condition :)

If it is defective on delivery, they are obligated to replace it, no? At least in most countries. Not sure why or how you got into a discussion with them about repair and repair fees.

Seems like pretty shoddy customer care if so. You should complain.

Has anyone already been able to test whether three monitors can be operated via a docking station? I would like to connect two 1440p and one 2160p monitor via Thunderbolt / USB-C at best.
I'm just afraid that there will be problems if all three monitors are operated via one port of the MacBook.

They are supposed to have a 14-day return window, I thought.

If they won't fix/replace it, just return it and buy another.
This is exactly what I ended up doing. The only models of the 16” they had in stock were the base models, and I wanted what I originally ordered, which was a 1 TB hd. So, I had it refunde…came home and ordered a new one. 4-5 weeks delivery. ?

Unfortunately, I had 3 different people assisting me at the Apple Store so it was difficult for me to keep up with what they were all doing.
1. They failed to refund my AppleCare, so I had to get right back on the phone with Apple support when I got home to get that resolved.

2. The person who was wiping my computer was one of their lead techs. Unfortunately, I still have that device listed in my trusted devices…and I can’t delete it. Not from any device I have, and not from iCloud. And it still shows it’s linked to ApplePay. And if I try to remove the ApplePay from this thing….it just shows right back up. It’s a ghost that will not go away. I have signed all my current devices out of iCloud…but that did nothing except give me a new error message that I’ve never seen before:
Messages in iCloud not
available as iCloud and
iMessage accounts do not
match
Messages in iCloud is not available
because iCloud and iMessage
accounts are different.

What a mess.
