Hello my name is Sam and i'm a student. I already own a 2013 imac and am looking to buy a macbook pro for school. I've heard some talk about some upgrades to the machine, haswell and more. Is there going to be a new one this week or should I get the current one since its only 999$ for a student. I'm going to be upgrading the ram to 16gb either way and will be putting in an ssd aswell

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,

You should wait, at least until the annual education perks are available.

Here's why:
1. Assuming that new models will be released, it is likely that they will be available at the same price points or at lower price points, even.
2. If new ones aren't released, the existing models may become cheaper, but they certainly won't become more expensive.
3. Last year, the perk was a free $100 iTunes gift card, good for the iTunes/App Stores. In previous years, Apple typically offered a free iPod (any base model).

That's a very good point! That's usually in december, i don't know if I can wait that long!

But do you think that the new one will be re-leased this weekend?

The back to school promo is in June to August. I personally do not think the non retina MBPs will get an upgrade tomorrow.

Ah, are you not in the U.S.? We usually get it sometime around this month.

I think it'll be released sometime this month. For various reasons (speed, resale value, future repair support, potential price drops), it is still worth waiting for, in my opinion.

No i'm from Canada

I see. I find it strange that your back-to-school promotions begin in December, since I know that U.Toronto's academic year begins in September.

Sorry i meant to say september in that post. Still can't wait that long!
