OK, So I just purchased a new 15 inch MBP today. Just a couple of weeks ago I replaced the hard drive in my old one, put in a 7200 RPM HyBrid drive from Seagate. I want to transport the hard drive into my new laptop.

If I just take it out of the old one and put it in the new one, would it work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Carbon Copy Cloner -- best darn app for copying HDDs on a Mac.

If the new MBP won't boot from the old HDD/SDD it could be because the support for the new CPU type is missing. Boot of the Snow Leopard DVD that comes with the new MBP. Install OS X - it won't overwrite applications or user data. Reboot from HDD - job done.

Just went through this exercise moving an SSD from my C2D MBP to an i7 one.

Hey,

I've transferred the drives but it won't boot up as you said. I put the DVD and reboot, but its still just showing the grey screen with the Apple on it. Any suggestions?

Hold the c button down as soon as your MBP boots and it should start from the Mac OS DVD.
