I have a 6 month old maxed out 15 MBP Touchbar that has died. No power up, tried resetting SMC, etc. with no luck. I have no Apple stores in Montana and will be taking it to a Vegas store when passing through at the end of the week.

Since I will only be in Vegas for a few days before being on a couple of month road trip, I am wondering what Apple is currently doing with most dead MBP’s. Is it likely that they will be able to fix in house or will needed to send it out, or that they are still mostly just replacing with a new unit as it seems to have been in the past.

Also, if it is send back to Apple or they need to order a new computer for me, has anyone had it shippped to a different store since I will be in other major cities over the following few weeks.

Any current experience with any of this most appreciated. Thanks!

You can ask them to ship it back home to you. You will have to be home to sign for the package though.
They probably won't replace it right there and then but will try to analyze and repair it first.

Why not just call them up. They will Fedex you a shipping box and Fedex the machine back to you after the repair. Explain your time frame and the can my get you fixed up before your leave. Or if it takes too long they can drop ship it to a store.

Can you share the nature of your employment? Fascinating to be on the road for several months at a time.

Unfortunately I need my computer to work from the road so having it shipped home won't help me out and there isn't time to get a box and ship it out before I leave. I'm hopeful that they can do something magical in the store to bring it back to life.

Sure. My son and I are home builders. He is involved with the project management and working with our clients whereas I'm dealing more with the back office functions for the business (accounting, contracts, insurance, and design work). Most of my work can be dealt with anywhere as long as I have cell coverage and internet access. There are many people like myself that have found was to be geographically independent with their careers. There are downsides and challenges from working from the road but it can be a great way to see different parts of the country and chase down good weather.

Thank you for the info! Have a great time on the road!
