That was in a new patent that Apple filed today for a "computing device". A mistake by Apple? It looks a nice amount thinner, and it has a bigger touchpad. It looks similar to the current MBP design with a new kind of keyboard. From the way it's shaped, it looks like it's going to be made out of aluminum. Thoughts?

Wow. I'm not sure I agree with any of your statements though:

It doesn't look any thinner as far as I can see, touchpad looks the same, I can't fathom what about that makes you think it would be made of aluminum. Frankly, it looks exactly the same.

I'd love for it to be something, I'm assuming its not.

It looks exactly the same as the current MacBooks.

How can you tell it looks like it could be aluminum? It's a drawing.

To me it just looks like the current MacBook design. I don't think it's a foreshadowing of what's to come.

macbook

will this give us any idea on how close the release is...do they usually request patents after they have the full final design down?.....i want a macbook. It looks nice forthe drawing. Good find

No guys, that's the new MacBook.

If I went into a store and bought a brand new MacBook, that is the one I would get...

It has a hinge design, and it takes after the MBP a little more, so it leads me to think that it's going to be made out of aluminum.

What the he|| is a hinge design!? No one is doubting you...where just questions your every statement...

lol

It looks exactly the same as the MacBook sitting on my lap right now. And the one I have is soon-to-be 2 years old

I don't think I'll ever expect Apple's entry laptop to ever be made out of aluminum. Aluminum is for the power-user consumers. The iBooks were never aluminum but the Powerbooks were, just as it's still the same today with the MB and MBP.

Besides new pantents don't usualy mean they are going to bring out that model or design(even if it still looks exactly the same ) Companies do that all the time to keep other companies from releasing a similiar product even if they have no intentions of actually mass-producing it.

Um, IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE CURRENT MACBOOK. Would you mind pointing out to me the differences between this patent, and the current MacBook?
This patent covers the physical appearance of the Macbook and it was filed in May 2006...

It isn't evidence of a new anything.

Case closed.

i just got my 2.5 mbp 2 weeks ago.
i'll be frustrated if the new mbp is much nicer... however, i doubt if there's any HUGE changes...

Same here, not really frusturated because i knew the new one was going to be coming out soon. I just liked everything about the current one i just got.

But there wont be any huge changes from what I am hearing small things like multi touch which I actually enjoying playing with on the MBA and the MBP and most likely an LED screen which would be lovely, but I dont need those things I use my macbook for everyday basic things.

its great to have such a smooth running piece of tecnology that does everthing you need to and more. Having the new macbook would just be more of a bonus lol

Actually this one was October 2007.
Poor OP had such high hopes

As far as I know, this is the patent that it came from:

The last filing date was 10/07 (i.e. the last time something was modified, but generally these modifications are minor ... the substance of the patent is generally pretty locked down on first filing), but if you look at the bottom, the initial filing date was 5/06.

Anyway... FAIL. ;)

Even Im guessing not many changes except a single sheet aluminum design and lots of tapering!:p
