New MacBook stock on 10th (UK)?

I visited the Trafford Centre store in Manchester and asked whether the new MacBook would be available to buy in-store on 10 April, but they said it was possible that they'd only have display models.

Has anyone else heard similar reports? I was quite keen to pick one up on the day :)
 
I haven't heard of anything.

Personally I am going to wait a few days until some user reviews come out and I can see if it'll be a good fit. I do want to try one out too. Il be going from a 13" so im thinking it might feel too small.

Asking an Apple Store employee what they'll have on a launch day of a new product is like finding a homeless man on the street, and asking him for a weather forecast for next week on Mars. They are generally the last in the company to know anything regarding what's coming in. Normal products they see "In Transit" when they've been shipped to the store, but new releases are delivered by Apple's regional courier service the day of or sometimes the night before. I'd place zero stock in anything they say, favorable or unfavorable about their inventory before the day of the launch. I don't mean to sound condescending, but they're retail workers, so they're last to know, least involved. In any other environment their title would be "Cashier" ...
 
As with the previous post, Take the Apple employees comments with a pinch of salt, they really don't know most of the time, so unless you talk to the manager it's not going to be clear .
 
I hasked to 3 different Apple Online Store specialist and they all told me that the rMB will be available in AppleStore on the 10th and online store orders will be accepted on the 10th with a delivery around the 13-14.

By "AppleStore" I assume that you mean the online store only. That would be unfortunate as I'd planned a weekend of tinkering with it, but I guess patience is a virtue :)

I've just spoken to the central call centre for the stores as you advised. They confirmed that the MacBook will be on sale in stores on 10 April.

Changing answers in the Edinburgh store over the last 7 days as to whether there would be stock:
1) Yes, though we don't know the amount (7 days ago).
2) Think so, not yet sure of what and how much, definitely no 1.3 (2 days ago).
3) No, pre-order only (30 mins ago). All shipments are leaving the USA tomorrow, so nothing anywhere. Staff had not yet seen it which would suggest no display units either (presumably they would have been in store already, and if not yet in store why only ship out and deliver a tiny number per store).

If #3 is true then it would possibly be nothing, worldwide, bar continental North America?

I wanted to buy one to take on holiday, leaving Monday, instead of the early 2011 17" MBP. But, on the basis of how much do the store staff really know, and that I am fortunate to work just round the corner, I'll be there just before 9 tomorrow morning...

Hi. Yes, it's very frustrating. I've just had a confusing exchange with their online chat-support. They said that stores never confirm that they're holding stock for next-day releases and that the release was still timetabled for tomorrow.

The above is in complete conflict with what an earlier call to their call centre where they confirmed that they rang the store who confirmed that they were not holding stock and that the release would not be taking place tomorrow.

I'm only persisting with it because I want to pick it up before going on holiday myself. I understand the point of creating an air of mystery around releases, but to provide misinformation and contradicting accounts of what will happen is just unprofessional.
 
Assuming the Apple Store web site works the same way in the UK that it does in the US, the most definitive answer is probably to select the one you want and see if it's available for local pickup at a physical Apple Store. You won't be able to do that until midnight PST, though.

Does the option to pick up come at some point during the online ordering process? Thanks for the info, by the way.

IIRC, it only comes up once you "select" one to purchase and then initiate the checkout process - but you choose shipping or local pickup pretty early in the checkout process (no risk of having to enter credit card info to figure that out).

Actually, I usually do this to figure out whether a local store has it so I can walk or drive over and buy it there, but you could just as easily complete the checkout process, pay with a credit card, and pick it up (already paid) at the local store you select, assuming that option was available.

We don't get 'Pick Up At Store' in the UK. Can get it sent to various local drop off sites, but not an Apple Store... sigh.

Spoke with the Apple Store in Brighton today, they said it would be in stock for purchase tomorrow.

I'll pop along in the morning and see if it is lie or not :p
 
I haven't checked but it looks like they will be in stock at John Lewis tomorrow (at least online). They have a Buy a Mac, get a 3 year warranty for free promotion that conveniently ends today, indicating there is a reason why they didn't want to have it available tomorrow.
 
It is NOT in stock at the Brighton Apple Store. They said yesterday it would be, but twas lies.

They do not even have a demo model.

Apple have really fudged this up.
 
None in store in Bath either display or stock, not sure when they will get them and suggested ordering online.
 
Same with the Covent Garden store in London. Guy I spoke to on the phone confirmed they haven't receieved even any display models.

Seems like all the stock went to the US and we'll have to wait for more supply to make it to the UK.
Shame, i was looking forward to going to the store. Now i'll just order it online.

Remember that the stock for each country is completely different. Each country has its own different keyboard, power adapter and paper documentation so maybe they have not even produced any UK units yet...
 
Anyone planning on checking out the central London stores? I'll probably go in later to see if they have demos yet.
