Has anyone else actually noticed that the prices of refurbished units is especially good this time of the year? Usually refurbished prices are in the ballpark of educational pricing, but now you can actually snag a C2D 2.16ghz MBP for a cool 1599, much lower than student price!

Could this mean Apple is desperately trying to clear stocks in preparation of something hot coming soon?

What would they update it to? Santa Rosa isn't out yet, they would have to announce the product and ship it at a later time if they updated it at all.

It could. I have my eye on the black MacBook @ $999.

I'm not expecting a refresh on either the MBs or the MBPs until Northern Hemisphere Summer, but I've been wrong before.

Exactly, that's why I was wondering.

The refurb prices on Macbooks and Macbook Pros are really very good. Too good. Like they are hiding something.

unless you're talking about a refurb or a reseller, don't hold your breath.

i doubt a MacBook update will happen at MWSF but i expect to see something before or at the time Leopard is released (Spring '07).

edit: just came across this:

I was browsing through the refurb store and noticed that the black macbook is selling for $999, while the white 2.0ghz macbook is at 1049! While new, the $50 difference is the other way, for whatever reason, the black macbooks are that much cheaper in the refurb store.

Regardless of whether or not new MacBooks come out at MWSF, I plan on buying a refurbished MacBook once Apple starts including Leopard with Refurbs.

I can wait a few months in order to save $129.

What I would love for them to come out on MWSF is a MBP 12" model. Then I would make switch from PPC to Intel

last year, imacs were updated in october and then updated AGAIN in early january.

Yeah, to Intel.

Now, Intel don't have anything to upgrade a MacBook to until around April when the Santa Rosa chipset lobs. Until then it's Mac mini and Mac Pro in the lineup for upgrades and the rest of MWSF will be new software, a Leopard preview (no release, no shipping date announced, just a preview) and a new product.
