okay so I am selling my iMac for something a bit more portable.

I am hoping to get around $1500 once i get a buyer.

my question is, should i get the 2.0 model, and have money for accessories like a case, mouse, etc, or should i get the 2.4 model and wait til christmas and ask for these things?!?

I browse the internet, use itunes, run windows (vista), etc.
I would like the benefits of a backlit KB, but would also like to get something nice for my family this christmas :p

what should i do?

When I buy computers, I always try to get the best that is currently out because it will last longer. If I were you, I would get the 2.4 model and get all the other accessories for Christmas.

thanks guys, thats what i was thinking for the backlit keyboard alone.

okay, what serial numbers should i look for for the best screen? also anything specific i can look at in store besides slanted keys?

I must be missing something. I've never looked at serial numbers to determine the screen quality. If you purchase it at a store, just check it out and make sure everything looks good and in tact.

oh, i thought a part of the serial number had where the screen was made/maker etc. i might be wrong :p

the LCD code is in the "about this mac",i believe..
but as long as you turn it on and it looks decent keep it..another "issue" according to some is the battery cover, take it off and see if it is stable once back on.
