hello,
I just received a new MacPro to test (3 week wait, 'apple seed' loaner program...) prior to executing an order, but it was shipped with ATI 2600 rather than the NVidia 8800GT that I requested.
I have already tested out the 2600 and found it does not perform as well as I need it to, but need to evaluate the 8800GT before ordering a machine because I do mostly volume rendering that relies upon a heavy amount of OpenGL calls. These OpenGL calls are particularly good at 'debugging' graphics drivers, and b/c Apple only provides 3 options (the top shelf option is not currently affordable for me), I have to run some simple tests to ensure I can do this rendering work w/ the 8800GT prior to buying the machine. As an example, in the last MacPro iteration (with Quadro FX4500), volume rendering with this program caused repeated crashes.
Thus, if there is an owner of a MacPro w/ 8800GT near Berkeley, CA, I would greatly appreciate the chance to do a few tests (about 30 minutes) on a volume dataset that would let me know if the card's driver is compatible with our modeling software.
my apologies in advance for such an odd post.
