I got this new Magic Trackpad since it was released about 2 months ago or so and I noticed the battery being worse than on the previous trackpads. Bit of a disappointment as the old trackpad can go longer without recharging.

Is that possible?

Mine (black/silver) has much better battery life than my previous space grey trackpad. In fact, it has better battery life than my new Magic Keys with black keys and TouchID.

Hmm ok. Maybe i got a bad one then.

I’m mainly using it with an iPad Pro but I doubt it affects the battery life more than using it with a Mac.

I too noticed that the trackpad (black/silver) battery seems to drain faster. I charged all of my Magic accessories at the same time and about a week later they are at:
  • Magic Keyboard = 75%
  • Magic Trackpad = 63%
  • Magic Mouse = 84%

And it seems it takes way longer to charge the new trackpad as well.

iPads has a different behavior than Macs. The low energy mode on iOS devices is designed to wait for a touch to turn on the device. In Macs, the sleep mode turns off peripherals and will wait for them to wake up and after that will fire the system up.

So connected to the iPad your Trackpad keeps awaken waiting for a touch.
Connected to a Mac it will auto-sleep, waiting tor a touch to self-wake and after that wake Mac.
