New Mail Banner Notification

I'm trying to figure out if there's any setting that can be changed to make new inbox mail pop up as a banner notification. All it seems to do for me now is make the new mail sound.

Banners for Mail should be selected by default in Mountain Lion. Check to make sure in System Preferences > Notifications > Mail. Although, banner notifications for emails have been sporadic for me so maybe that is what is happening to you as well.
