New MB/MBP DVD drive firmware...

I'm assuming the new MB/MBP's still have that lame DVD drive firmware that forced you to lock it to one region (with a maximum of 5 changes). Can anyone tell me otherwise?

It was on the old MBP and is on the new.

Plus it's 25 changes.

Isn't it a license requirement (to the patent holders of the DVD technology: Sony, Philips, Toshiba and Time Warner) that Apple's DVD Player software that they enforce the whole region lock thing?
