I saw this mentioned in at least one review, but the sound on this unit seems incredibly loud (and good quality) all things considered. It's definitely louder than my older rMBP in spite of being physically so much smaller. I don't know how they did it, and I don't think it was advertised as a design feature at all.

Yup, several reviews mentioned this. Even several users as well. There's a speaker grille above the keyboard, which probably helps. On the Air models, the speakers were always hidden underneath the keyboard...and I thought the sound on those were amazing. Same goes for the 13" rMBP. I'm personally very happy about this. With how small the machine is, they easily could have sacrificed on things like the speaker...but Apple never does that.

I don't even want to know how loud it would get with Boom 2.
