So after a while of using an iPad and my iPhone more or less exclusively I am tempted to get back into the laptop world. I like the look of the new MBA but having a look on Apple the choice it’s coming down to is;

1. New 15” MBA with 16gb and 512gb for £1,399

Or,

2. Refurb 14” MBP M4 chip with 10 core cpu and 10 core gpu, 16gb and 512gb for £1,359

Out of the two am I correct in thinking the MBP is better specced in every way apart from a slightly smaller screen and the fact it is a refurb, and it’s heavier? It would mostly be used in the house, fairly casual stuff, web browsing, emails, some light photo editing etc. I do want something that will last four to five years too.

Grateful for your thoughts, what would you buy? Is there anything I am not thinking here on why the MBA might be the better choice?

Both will serve you well for the stuff you do. Some will say that the 60hz Air screen is junk against the 14" Mini LED ProMotion display. That's not my experience at all with my M1Pro vs my M3 Air. Yes the Pro has the better screen, but the Air's screen looks just as good to me, except in specific situations (e.g. HDR content). I am very sensitive to 120Hz on a phone/tablet, but on a laptop it doesn't seem to matter all that much to me.

Personally, I would take the 15" Air because bigger screen trumps a better screen 9/10 times for me when I'm trying to get things done. (Not a graphics pro).
