I got the screen on my MacBook Air M1 2020 replaced by Apple recently. Now it is very hard to open the lid with one hand. It seems that the magnets holding the lid closed are much stronger than the prior one. I tried swapping just the hinges on the new screen with those from an older one thinking that that was the issue, but it made no difference. I feel silly going back to Apple to complain about this, but it really makes opening the laptop pretty frustrating every time I go to use it. Has anyone experienced a similar issue issue?

If you had the screen replaced by Apple recently, then you tried swapping the hinges on the new screen with those from an older one, you most likely voided any warranty on the new part and the repair work.

Don’t feel silly, take it back and ask them to take a look at it.

There are no magnets holding the screen closed. The hinge tension is what holds it in place both open and closed. But in your case, having replaced the hinge yourself, I doubt Apple will touch it. The best you can do is recheck your installation or hope the tension loosens a bit with usage.
