Everytime I open yahoo messenger, I get an annoying high pitch sound for about 30 seconds, then it stops. It does the same with most applications. Sound seems to be coming underneath keyboard towards right, near superdrive. Any ideas? Me thinks whenever the CPU is taxed with opening an app, it triggers the event.

This is a refurb unit that just arrived today.

I attached a sound clip taken with my iphone.

Sounds like your hard drive spooling up. I wouldn't worry about it too much. In energy saver do you have checked "put the hard disk(s) to sleep" whenever possible?

That does indeed not sound normal!

I'm very sensitive to high pitched noises and if mine did make that sound i wouldn't be able to work on the computer at all!

I'd take it in
