I just received my new 2017 15" MBP touch bar and am trying to us my about 2011 27" Apple Cinema display with it. This is the version of monitor prior to Thunderbolt, just mini display port. I purchased a USB-C to Mini Displayport adapter from Amazon but no luck with the computer detecting the monitor.

I understand that there are difference between the 2016 and the refreshed 2017 MBP regarding the USB-C ports and driving displays. However, I haven't had luck getting to the bottom of the differences or what to order for an adapter that will work well and be reliable.

Any advice appreciated. Once the Other World Computing Thunderbolt 3 dock actually ships I'll probably get one but in the meantime I'd like a solutions.

Thanks!

Plugable says their USBC to DisplayPort cable works with the 2017, but you'd have to match it with a DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort adapter.

I ordered a Monoprice USBC to DisplayPort dongle, with a matching DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable. Hopefully it works.

Thanks. Yes, apparently there is some difference between the 2016 and 2017 models with display/dongle compatibility. One of the items in your link even states not compatible with 2017 MBP. Love to know what is going on and a reliable solution.
