For those who interested in matlab performance :
I switched to 17 mbp from sony vaio z. i recently bought with 2.2 ghz cpu, 8 gb ram and 128 ssd, anti glare. it's a wonderful machine. i am a matlab user, normally it takes more than 10 minutes to install matlab with toolboxes, but it took 3-4 minutes for mbp !
Here are the bench results

0.0366 0.1088 0.1312 0.2050 0.5012 0.7561
0.0369 0.0827 0.1322 0.2250 0.4966 0.7703

in the first 4 actions mbp outperform other listed computers, the problem is the last 2 are 2d and 3d graphs. I guess mbp is using integrated gpu for matlab that's why the results are far behind the other systems. i haven't tried to change (if possible) to see the effect but as i am mostly performing data analysis, i don't need graphs in matlab.
In the past matlab was always better on windows, i think it's still the case (above other configurations are dual core, so can't do an exact comparison) but also in the past it was really painful to use matlab on mac (4-5 years ago, when i was using ibook), windows was definitely better, but now i'd suggest mac rather than windows.
