Howdy,

So, Im getting a new MBP 17'' and will be upgrading the ram and hdd myself. I see on the ifixit guide that they removed the battery as a precaution, but is it really necessary?

Also, i believe the screwdrivers i need are #00 philips + torx T6 (tri wing #0 if removing battery). Does it matter if these are magnetised?

Any help appreciated,

Cheers

I'd say it's recommended. You don't want any power to RAM or the HDD when you're removing/replacing them.

No need to remove the battery. When I worked on mine, I just unplugged the battery.

They did not remove the battery, they disconnected it, and it is fairly easy to reconnect.

I once swapped from hdd to ssd in a 13 inch while the machine was sleeping. Although I would not reccomend it. I did not have any issues.

aslong as the computers fully off and you are static free i dont see removing or disconnecting the power. yeah i know im a rebel.
