I received my MBP 13" last week from Amazon and upon first launching the laptop, the touch bar screen was just scrambled and flickering (see attached picture). I rebooted the machine several times and updated the macOS, but the touch bar was still flickering and unusable, since I couldn't see any of the icons. I was contemplating on returning it to Amazon the next day and getting an exchange, but even on their website they were out of stock for that particular model.
Luckily, some from one of the Discord groups I'm in suggested to try reseting the SMC. I did that and afterwards the Touch Bar showed up correctly. A week in using the laptop most seems fine. Normally, I would've just contemplated doing an exchange, but unsure of stock and I need a working laptop right now. I was also hoping that the Apple Store near me was going to be open to see if they could do a diagnosis, but stores are still closed in my state. I plan to get Apple Care and hope for the best. It's just strange to not see everything working correctly from Apple out of the box.
Another strange thing I've noticed is that at least on 2-3 occasions I've noticed this past week, the battery doesn't charge all the way to 100%, even though it's been plugged in all night. It'll show around 96%. I'm using the standard 61W charger and is plugged in. I’m not doing anything intensive, just having Firefox and Edge browsers with tabs open, dropbox, onedrive, and powerpoint. Even though the machine is plugged in, the laptop seems to drain within the hour to 89%. After that it charges back up to 100%.
Is there something wrong or is it related to the macOS 10.15.5 update for managing the battery health? Battery cycle count as of this writing is 4, according to coconut battery.
