Is there any downside to buying a brand new MBP (which obviously still come with Mavericks) and updating to Yosemite vs waiting for Apple to start shipping them with Yosemite installed? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm considering switching to a MBP, but not necessarily in a huge rush.

None in terms of what you end up with.

However if you ever Internet Restore the OS it will reload whatever was originally shipped on the machine. So if you have a machine shipped with Mavericks, it will take you a further step to upgrade to Yosemite (until 10.11 comes out).

You can mitigate that effect though by keeping the Yosemite installer on a USB stick and upgrading that to a 10.11 installer etc etc as required).

My machine shipped with Lion, I would never waste time Internet Restoring back that far even if it is possible.

Thanks. Should I inmediately update to Yosemite... or first set up everything in Mavericks, then update?
