New MBP Apps or Programs

Looking for some apps that I might want but don't know about. I think I might want the below but don't know really what I would use them for. lol

VLC Player
Handbrake
Trillian Pro

What does VLC Player do? Just play movies? Where would I get the files to play? And Handbrake converts movies files?

Anyways let me know if im missing out on some great app or program or how you use VLC and/or Handbrake.

VLC is the Swiss army knife of media players it will play virtually any format of video you throw at it great for getting around Apple approved formats they limit their players to. Handbrake a video encoder/transcoder for processing video files it has be pared down over the years now to only support a couple of output formats but will take in many other formats for conversion to these formats. Have used both forever and they do their job well. Trillian no clue and too lazy to Google ATM.
