New MBP from ebay - no OS on it. Please advise

got a new macbook pro today off ebay, but it has no os on it. i have access to a windows machine so could i use this:

then boot from a harddrive on my MBP and then install the os?

The 'legal' way forward would be to purchase a OSX install retail disc from Apple etc.
Using any torrent does not mean you have the license to use the software. Depending on the release date off your purchased MBP, it may well have come with an older version of OSX.

Whether you wish to go ahead is completely up to you though. Personally I like to stay away from software torrents because you can never be sure of whether the software is 'clean'.
For example, how do you know that torrent you have linked to doesn't contain a key logger or some sort of malicious tool inserted into it?......

Looks like that would work. Once you have the image on the USB, boot off of it and install.

The other option is to try the internet recovery at start-up.

Use Internet Recovery then, as posted a few posts back. It will definitely work with that Mac, and you don't have to worry about the validity of a downloaded file.
