set up my new MBP tonight and would like to sync up my iPhone and iPad to the fresh iTunes on it.

is this something that is possible? Wouldn't that wipe the devices clean?

Set up iTunes sharing on your iMac by opening iTunes on it, going to Preferences - Sharing and turning it on. You should then be able to see your iMac's iTune library on your MBP.

Best thing I can come up with is this:
Transfer library with your iPad/iPhone by using SharePod.
I used it when I lost my Ituneslibrary to transfer the songs from my iPod back on my laptop.

Edit: Not entirely sure if it will work on a Mac, was using it on an HP.

Edit 2: Link: http://www.getsharepod.com/

Why not just copy and paste your iTunes folder from your old computer onto a external and put it in your Music folder of your new computer. Then you can ask iTunes to upload that folder and all the music will be there.
