New MBP owner and System Preferences

Hi Guys

I am the owner of a new MBP after years of PC's, first impressions are very good so far but I have a few questions.

Why when I plug my memory stick in and then eject it, everything transfers over onto the laptop?

When I have transfered 502 photos from my memory stick over to iphoto it somehow finds 1652 photos from somewhere that are not even on the memory stick?

Can somebody help me with the System Preferences app, I have deleted it as I deleted everything out of today's folder. I beleive you can just email the app?

However it says I need 10.7, I am running 10.6.7 apparently....?
