Hi everyone,
I just purchased my first mac (15.4" 2.5 ghz penryn mbp) :D
I'm looking to upgrade from 2GB to 4 GB. After doing some
research on various sites and faqs, I'm down to 2 choices:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231154

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/53C4DDR2P4GB/

The final price is about the same for either product, but I'm not sure which is
a more reliable brand for mac users (vs pc users).
Thanks in advance for any advice- really enjoying
switching from pc to mac, even though I have to re-learn things. :apple:

If they are the same price, I'd go with the OWC. I've used G.Skill bought from Newegg on my Macbook and it was totally fine. However at the time it was significantly cheaper than OWC.

When I've bought stuff from OWC it has always been a great experience, even if I had to return something. They also have done a great job through the years of being Mac centric in a world that usually is not (although that is less of an issue now than a number of years ago). As such when they sell RAM and such and claim it will work with certain machines, it almost always does.

I have had the opposite experience dealing directly with RAM manufacturers.

I should also mention that G.Skill lately has apparently been using Samsung memory chips, which have a really good reputation. I don't know off the top of my head what chips the OWC RAM is using, but it is probably also very good.

Thanks Shawn- I went with OWC, but paid a few extra bucks for Samsung 4GB.
Should be good.

I have the same model MBP as you and I put 4GB RAM in from OWC. I have not had a problem yet, runs great.

G.Skill is good.
I've put it into many a Macbook/pro/imac never with problems.

Personally, for my own MacBook Pro, I bought the G.Skill with the lowest CAS rating, I believe it was CAS4 instead of CAS5, so the performance is slightly better.
