Had a couple hours to play with my new M1 Max 16” tonight. After playing around with some benchmarks, seeing what old games run at 4k, hooking it up to 3 external 4k monitors just because I can, and just playing around, I was about ready for bed. I had noticed how smooth ProMotion looked a few times, and it was clear the instant the machine booted that the mini LED panel is special, but I hadn’t looked at any HDR content on it yet. As we were about to head to bed, GF wanted to see the new Mac, and she opened up some of our favorite photos from this summer. HOLY MOTHERFORKING SHIRTBALLS!
I’ve had HDR screens on my iPhone for a while and I’ve seen a few 2021 12.9” iPads and pro displays in the store, but nothing could prepare us for this new screen. Photos we already loved suddenly looked so real we could reach through the screen and re-enter the moment they were taken. The sun coming through a window or a bright light in the frame literally look like lights! Not bright areas, or white areas, but literal lights illuminating the space naturally as if the screen is a window into the past. This will eventually become old news and normal, but for now my brain is broken. We literally almost cried multiple times over how insanely good our photos looked on this screen.
Anyone else totally blown away by the new XDR panel?
