Hello,

I would like to purchase a new MBP soon. Should I pull the trigger or is a new batch coming soon? Thanks in advance...

There is always potential for an upgrade and no matter the size, 13", 15", 17", every new update makes the one in your had technically "old tech". :p

As does mine shambo and mine was twice the cost of yours because it sits on a desk and guess what buddy? It's "old tech". While I still earn and play on it, it's OLD tech, outdated if you will. It's not about how much you spend or don't spend, your macbook pro is no more of a "badboy" than my machines.

do you reckon people who refer to their laptop as "bad boy" are the same people who name their penis?

i do

whoa, getting a little crazy in here!

Thx for the responses. I currently have a 2.5 GHz Penryn-Based MacBook Pro with Multitouch and 4GB RAM and 512 MB graphics card from 2008. Would it be stupid to upgrade to the new MBP's? I'm just feeling for a new machine ;)

Don't buy the current. Wait for next gen.

It makes no sense for you to upgrade you still have at least another year on there. I would wait until the next update and see what it has to offer, and even then if its not a huge upgrade, I would wait until it makes sense to update.

Because my bad boy allows me to earn a living and play, that's how.

That's not future proofing...
It may work very well for a while, but that doesn't mean it's future proofed.
The only part of a computer that could potentially be considered future proof is the case. And only on desktop towers! Even they aren't really future proof as cases get smaller along with smaller motherboards.

I would buy it and then exchange if a new one comes out one month later. I bought an early '08 MacBook Pro back in late August and then a few weeks later (around a month) the new aluminum one came out. Unfortunately, I don't live in the USA. I bought it from BestBuy and I was eligible for an exchange if after a month or two later (don't remember correctly) a new one came out and I'd have just paid the difference which isn't much considering I'd have the new version. The current MacBook Pro versions are awesome, so GO AHEAD and you will not regret.

If my bad boy allows me to successfully earn a living for years then ergo I am future proofed as there will be no need for me to upgrade.

By that logic a clamshell ibook is "future proofed" as long as you earn your living by consulting via emails. I think you are underestimating what future proofed means. Also how mature is using a rolling eye emoticon.

Precisely.
Also, no self respecting human being would refer to the highest end MacBook Pro 15" as a badboy, just because it's powerful.
It's like the sort of thing you'd expect people to be saying in a budget porno.
"Oh you bad boy!" said the fair maiden to her... MacBook Pro.
