New MBP vs. 2008 MacPro

At NAB this past year, practically nobody had any macpros on the floor. All imac and macbook pros on thunderbolt.

Is the new MacBook Pro with Tunderbolt Promise RAID faster and a better solution for editing on FCP than my current 2008 MacPro 2 X 2.8 quad core intel xeon, 6GB RAM, and 256 ATI radeon hd 2600?

Current workflow is Panasonic AVC-Intra 100 four camera multi-cam for three tv series, after effects for motion graphics, and rendering out to XDCAM for broadcast.
