I bought 4GB of RAM for my aluminum macbook, since I tend to have a ton of programs open at once and it was getting sluggish. I can't tell if it's any faster, but I've noticed that my computer seems to never use more than 3GB. After 4 days of uptime, without running any super-intensive programs or videos, I have 900K page outs, and 100K page ins. I've never noticed my computer running out of memory entirely, but at one point I had 16Mb free and 1.2 GB in inactive. My swap space is 1GB out of 2GB. So I guess my questions are:
Are that many page outs normal? It seems to be higher than my rate of page outs was before.
Is it all right to have 16Mb in free memory, and 1.2GB in inactive?
Shouldn't I be addressing my physical memory before swap space?
Is there a way to tell if my memory is working properly? System profiler lists it as 4Gb.
Thanks!
