was planning on using the ssd to boot externally if someone can recommend a good enclosure?
also considering the 3tb seagate backup plus instead of the lacie little big disk in case I was going to go the thunderbolt route at a later time...any thoughts or suggestions??

The backup drive I use has been very good so far. It's a Seagate GoFlex drive + Thunderbolt adapter. The portable version is much cheaper, and provides adequate performance for Time Machine. I have a 2011 MBA though. In your situation, I'd just get the USB3 GoFlex drive. It gives you the freedom to switch adapters in the future if you ever have a need. Just to be clear though, the adapters it uses goes from SATA to port. It's quite good on performance.
