I've had a 100/5 cable connection over the past year. Over wifi with 2 bridged AirPort Extremes (latest AC versions), I would typically get just over 100 down, on all my devices...iPad Air, Mini, iPhone, MacBook, and Mac Mini.
Along comes 300/20 service from Time Warner, requiring a new modem. I get the modem...basically the same modem I had last year but with 16 channels. It's a Motorola SB6183.
I expected I would get the same speed ratio on all my devices. I was connecting at 100+ on a 100 line; I should connect at close to 300 on a 300 line.
On all my devices, except for the Mac Mini, which is hard wired to the secondary extended router, I'm getting about 150, and only that much when connecting to a very specific server on the speedtest app. I never tinkered with changing test servers prior to now. If I let the app choose a server, I get UNDER 100.
Strangely, on the wired Mac Mini, which is still technically connecting wirelessly, even though it's hard wired to a router, I get exactly what I would have expected to get on my iOS devices; just over 300.
I know I'm not hitting the ceiling on the iPhone 6 and Air 2 at 150. I've seen them go higher at work. The variable seems to be the new modem, but again, the Mac Mini performs as expected, so the modem seems functional at advertised speed.
The Mac Mini doesn't have 802.11 AC. The iPhone and iPad Air 2 do, as well as iOS 8.1. But they connected at expected speeds 2 days ago to a different modem.
If I wasn't seeing 300+ on the Mac Mini, I'd assume the modem was a dud, but since it is getting 300, I'm at a loss as to why my iOS devices can't achieve the same speed, or even close.
Anyone else seeing similar discrepancies on their network?
