I want to get a new monitor... But I don't want to pay 2000 for the apple 30 inch monitor if there is something comprable for less...

Any input would be appreciated...

Cheers

There's been 500 threads on this, but there's the Dell 30" which goes for $1699. Many say it's the sma panel yadda yadda yadda, but to me, the ACD looks better.;)

There are only 2 30" 2560x1600 monitors on the market (that I know of) - the Dell 3007 and the Apple 30" ACD.

Both require dual-link DVI output to run properly, currently this means that the following can work with the 30" LCD monitors:

- Mac Pro
- MacBook Pro
- Certain recent version of the PowerBook
- Most, but not all, PowerMac G5s.

There are larger displays out there but most of them are just that - displays - they have a lower resolution (normally around either 1920x1080 if they are LCDs or 1366x768 if they are plasma screens) and are mainly designed to be used as televisions or to display information at a size that is visible from a long way away.

How much does the Dell 3007 cost anyway?

After shipping & tax though, it's $1,538.02. Depends if you want to save $138.02 by buying off eBay or not...

Provided the seller is a reputable person to deal with (which would appear to be the case), then it might be worth saving the $138. Personally, I would still buy the monitor directly from Dell, just for the added peace of mind. :)

You can get it cheaper via an eBay coupon. There are a few small business electronics coupons that apply to the Dell 3007wfp. 20% off bring the price to 1360 + tax. Don't think you can beat that.
