I have a 400 MHz G3 Ruby in which i want to install another motherboard. I can get my hands on 3 untested motherboards coming from other iMacs. One has a G3@500MHz, and two of them have G3 running at 600MHz cpus. Has anyone ever done any "transplant" similar to this? Are the connectors in the same place as they are on my 400MHz version? I'd like to get one of the 600MHz in there to bring some new life in the old ruby. But i can live even with the 500MHz one. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

As long as they are the same generation of iMac G3 (tray loading or slot loading) they should fit with no issues. I did the same for my 400MHz Graphite, I upgraded it to the 700MHz board for $90.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll give those motherboards a try as soon as they arrive.
