Hi guys,
So, got a refurb 2010 and I'm moving things over from my 2008. Checking if you guys have a better paln than the one I've got!
The problem comes because my main user is on a 6tb raid 6 array in an 8 drive enclosure ... which can't be used with Migration Assistant because its classified as external disc (attached via a PCI Areca raid card).
What I was going to do was delete all my music, photos and movies (iTunes, Lightroom & iphoto, fcpx & iTunes) from the disc, move the user back onto the boot drive (a small ssd) and then use Migration Assistant to get the user onto the new mp, hook up the raid on the new MP and copy things back onto the raid, and then put the app connections (iTunes, Lightroom and iphoto, fcpx & iTunes) back in place.
A slightly different version of this would be to clone the boot onto another drive, move the user there and then copy over. The problem being that I'd have to delete quite a lot to fit things onto 2tb drives that I've got.
I think going with plan A is going to be easier than starting from scratch: make a new user, move that over onto the moved raid, load up all the data set everything like email etc.
What do you reckon?!
Cheers for any thoughts
