New (oct 2013)RMBP 15 high end - tests

Hey guys - new to the forums & macs.
Not very clued up with comp stuff but keen to learn!

I'm about to buy the new RMBP 15.
And given the price and issues regarding hardware problems(screen discoloration,IR,etc)
I thought I'd seek the help of the people in the know YOU GUYS!

Can anyone recommend some tests to check that my new machine is as it should be?

And if possible explain some basics ie what is IR?what problems I should be looking for?how do I check which screen I have (Samsung LG)etc?

Sorry if this seems dumb.its a foreign subject for me, and a pricey investment.

I appreciate all your feedback and in the meantime I will be scanning these forums to expand my knowledge as much as possible.
I hope to to become part of this excellent community!

Also, don't forget to check for creaking noises when you push on the laptop.
