Wasn't sure where to post this, but with all the new unlimited data plans being rolled out I wanted to share this info with you, especially since I haven't seen any real advertising/promotion for it. I received an email from OnStar about two weeks ago (otherwise I'd never have known about it) saying they just released an unlimited data plan for their hotspot equipped 2015 & newer GM vehicles. I've used the hotspot with the trial they gave me when I purchased the vehicle and reactivated it (1GB plan) a couple time since for camping trips etc. I usually decide against keeping if for more than the month I need it as the price was pretty steep. I was expecting the price to be outrageous, but after reading the email was surprised it was being offered for only $20/month (you don't need to be an AT&T customer or anything). I was already paying $10/month for 1GB so I instantly upgraded. I don't work or do business related things from my car or anything but couldn't pass it up for the price. It can connect up to 7 devices and the speed test checked out pretty good in my opinion. It comes in handy for my son watching YouTube or downloading games, music etc on the road. I also use it to stream my Sling TV or Netflix subscriptions on my lunch break. I believe the hotspot works within a 50 foot range of your car (assuming the power is on) so I've used it to stream music or videos in the cabin/tent on camping trips. Like any other "unlimited" plan, the rep did mention the possibility of it being slowed/prioritized after 22gb.
I understand this might not be for everyone (might not even be for me after seeing how much data I truly use after a month) and these little nickel and dime services add up but thought I'd share for those of you that didn't know about it. Overall, I think it's pretty cool and innovative to say the least.
