iPod new osx install + old ipod

I'm reinstalling osx to fix some issues i've been having. The way I use my music..all my music is on my ipod but to save space I kept it off the computer. Now that I'm reinstalling osx, it won't recognize the ipod as its own and will want to wipe it clean. Is there any program or anything I can use to get my stuff off the ipod, clear it so the computer can use it again, and then put all my stuff back on it. Thanks.
