New Panasonic Digital Camcorder Import to iMovie

Hey all, I am fairly new to iMac, but have had it since May. I am about to purchase a Panasonic HDC-SD80 High Definition Camcorder Here are the video specs, can I import the video files into imovie '09 or imovie '11? Any help would be great, thanks in advance guys. J

And it is also not listed here for iMovie '09:

It is therefore not supported officially, but it might work.
Have you any alternatives?
