New Pay & Go Iphone questions

Hi, I have just got my first Pay as you go 3G iphone on O2 and have some Q's that people may be able to help me with:

1. I have access to internet through wifi at home but when out and about can I not access internet on 3G for free for the first 12 months? If so, how do i set that up as I couldn't get online yesterday when in the pub?

2. What is VPN?

3. What is Jailbreaking? and quick pro's and cons of doing so?

4. Any do's and do not's?

1. I think that o2 state that your free web should start within 24 hours of buying the phone, when did you buy it? Remember it may take slightly longer due to today being a bank holiday. If it's not working by tomorrow I would call o2.

2.V.P.N. means Virtual Private Network, if you don't know what it mean's its very unlikely you'll ever need to set it up.

3. It allows you to install unsupported apps, like video recording etc, lots of stuff, also enables you to unlock your phone.
