New phone, now iMessage recipient gets new “maybe MyName” instead of MyName

Changed from iPhone X to iPhone XS.
On the new phone I’m logged in to iCloud, iCloud Messages etc.
But when I send a text to my GF (also using iPhone), the text is not added to our existing conversation.
Instead, a new conversation is created where the top says “maybe MyName” (where MyName is my contact name).

I update iPhone every year but have never come across this before.
What the heck should I do to get “approved”?

She has you in her contacts under your phone number or Apple ID.

Whichever one you have selected in settings on your device, is the one she needs to use on her device. Your setting may have changed.

You may have to go into your config and set the address (or phone #) used when sending iMessages. I had a similar issue because mine was set to use my e-mail instead of my phone # since the SIM didn't properly activate during setup.
