iCloud New phone number breaking iMessage

I have changed cell numbers and 99% of my threads in Messages are to the old number. I had a couple of contacts add my new number but iMessages is not syncing the threads. They see a new thread but I see all the messages in the old thread on my iPhone and nothing on my Mac. Any ideas on how to fix this without starting all new threads?
