I’ve forgotten the answer I’m sorry ..

When I upgrade my iPhone 13 Pro Max to an iPhone 15 Pro, do I need to unpair my Apple Watch Ultra 2 from the old phone and repair to the new one, or does it do this itself as part of the restore from backup process?

The plan was to backup the 13 Pro Max to iCloud and then turn the phone off.

Then turn the 15 Pro on and restore from that iCloud backup.

Have I forgotten how to do it properly lol?

If your watch is in range it will ask if you want to connect Apple Watch to your new phone as part of the set up process. That’s how it worked for me this afternoon with my new 15. It was a seamless transition.

Brilliant, so unpairing from old and then repairing to new, it just transfers as part of the set up process

This was my experience this time as well. When upgrading from my 13 to 14PM, I had to unpair my watch and then set it up again with the new phone. I was relieved and pleasantly surprised that it just transferred over when going to 14P.

supposed to transfer, but when I transferred my iPhone 13 Pro to my new 15 pro, the transfer didn't work. I had to wipe my watch and backup/restore and add it to the 15 manually.

This is somewhat of a hit and miss scenario, during the last years this has been working about 50% of times. This time it worked.
