New Photos app activates the dGPU in MBPs

As the title states, the new Photos app activates the dGPU in MBPs. I was interested, but this ruins it for me. I'm not sure why viewing photos requires me to lose half my battery life.
 
The install notes state that CPU and battery usage will go up significantly after the update while indexing etc. goes on. I'd wait a day to see if you still have battery usage issues.

My library is currently empty, so nothing to index. The app just triggers the dGPU for whatever reason.
