The new Photos app activates the dGPU for me on my late 2013 rmbp with 750M. Anyone else have this issue? Seems kind of silly that viewing photos would require the dGPU.

If you install gfxcardstatus on your machine you can choose to use the integrated only. Just be sure you choose integrated before you open photos because you can't switch from dGPU to iGPU once open.
I opened Photos again today and found that it did switch, despite not doing so when I posted my earlier message. After a bit of experimentation I've found that - for my machine at least - it'll switch when plugged in, but not when on battery.

I just tested mine with the same conclusion. I actually might use it now, as it avoids the battery drain problem. Too bad all programs that use the dGPU don't use this switching feature. It's a pretty good compromise.
